TOSIroam FAQ's

TOSIroam FAQs

These are the long term FAQs as opposed to the project FAQs.
These FAQ's will become inter grated into the projects structure as is rolled out.

    • Prerequisites

    • Costs:
      • To be completed after the project trial period.
      • Operational costs should be very low (just maintenance of the radius servers)
      • Most costs will be related

    • Benefits ... what are the practical advantages of TOSIroam?

    • How it works?
      1. As soon as the mobile device turns on it searches for any wireless connections.
If that connection (usually a school) is part of the TOSIroam project the device is identified as belonging to the project and the authorising process is immediately passed back to the projects servers where both the user and device is identified.
(Technically this done via secure tunnels on a radius server with a SQL backend)
      2. Once identified (less than a second) the user can then seamless surf the Internet without the need for a password.
      3. If the user then tries to access suspect material the user is challenged and the N4L content filtering process comes into play.

    • How does the school manage the system?
      • Identify the users and devices.
The school needs to identify both the devices and the users that will be allowed.to use...
        • The automatic wireless logon for your school
        • The roaming service
      • Document information about the identified devices and users.
        • Crystal users do this in Crystal Kete.
        • Non Crystal schools will need to use their own management systems to do this.
Remember non Crystal schools will need to document AUP's, certificates, Device wireless MAC numbers, usernames and associated content filter profiles and to set up a web tool to read the radius text logs. More information from your local project manager.
